There was no conferences to start out with on November 16, 1912, OU beat OSU 16 to nothing and on November 21, 1913, OU beat OSU 7 to nothing. They both joined the Southwest Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (Southwest Conference) founded in 1914 with (8) charter members: Arkansas, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma St.), Rice, Southwestern (Texas), Texas and Texas A&M. Next OSU joined the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) in 1925. Members included: Missouri, Drake, Kansas State, Nebraska, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Grinnell College, Kansas, Washington MO and Oklahoma State.
The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC), the nation's second oldest conference, in 1928 consisted of: Drake, Creighton, Grinnell College, Washington MO and Oklahoma State. In 1957, there was a conference called the Southwestern Independent (Defunct) members included: Oklahoma State, Miami (Florida), Pacific, San Jose State, Florida State and Texas Tech.
The Big 8 became the Big 12, the 1960 members of the Big 8 were: Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. When the former Big Eight Conference merged with four Texas schools that had been members of the Southwest Conference, which had just disbanded, Big 12 football was divided into a north and south division. 1996 members of the Big 12 were: Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, and Iowa State in the north and Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Baylor University in the south.
